PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN HOW TO:
  • Identify several challenges facing young children who have experienced early adversity

  • Familiarize themselves with the child-led psychotherapy Watch, Wait, and Wonder

  • Discuss the underpinnings of Watch, Wait, and Wonder in attachment theory

  • Compare Watch, Wait, and Wonder to other current interventions

  • Describe Watch, Wait, and Wonder technique and process and illustrate with videotaped material

  • Summarize research results comparing Watch, Wait, and Wonder to other psychotherapeutic approaches

FACULTY

Watch Wait and Wonder is a form of infant-parent psychotherapy that was positively reviewed in the July/ August 2006 Infant Mental Health Journal article, "Maternal Depression: A Review of Relevant Treatment Approaches for Mothers and Infants".

Nancy J. Cohen, Ph.D., C.Psych., Hincks-Dellcrest Centre and University of Toronto is:

  • Director of Research at the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre for Children’s Mental Health and the Hincks-Dellcrest Institute.

  • Professor of Psychiatry at University of Toronto and Adjunct Professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education Department of Human Development and Applied Psychology and York University Department of Psychology.

  • A researcher, clinician, and teacher in the fields of child and family mental health, infant mental health, attachment, domestic and international adoption, and the interface of language impairment and child psychopathology.

  • Co-author of Watch, Wait, and Wonder, the Family Attachment Program and Language Impairment and Psychopathology in Infants, Children, and Adolescents.
