Participants will learn how to
  • identify coping styles of infants and toddlers and develop strategies to improve their ability to cope with their seonsory wants and needs within caregiver relationships;
  • define the specific elements that promote emotional availability within dyads and triads;
  • determine specific behavioral elements of caregiver's interaction and build upon enhancing the positive behaviors through supervision, mentoring and training; and
  • conceptualize how to assess, intervene, and evaluate the development of positive interactions between caregivers and infants and toddlers that improve infacnt/toddler coping.

  • A Half-Day Spring ProgramParticipants are invited to bring examples for discussion from children and families with whom they are working.


    Presenters

    Libby Zimmerman, Ph.D., LICSW is a social worker with a particular interest in understanding how children relate to more than one caregiver. Her research focuses on infants' developing relationships with their parents and their infant childcare teachers. She is a Senior Early Childhood Associate with the Early Head Start National Research Center at Zero to Three. In this position, she is a consultant to federal staff working to support Early Head Start programs in the New England Region. For the past 12 years, Dr. Zimmerman taught at Boston University School of Social Work where she chaired the Human Behavior Sequence. She is currently completing work on a federal Multidisciplinary Assessment Training grant.

    Sharon Ray, ScD, OTR/L has extensive clinical experience working with children and their families in both early intervention and school-based settings. She currently teaches pediatrics in occupational therapy at Boston School of Occupational Therapy at Tufts. She provides consultation to occupational therapists in various pediatric practice areas and to school and early intervention programs. Her research involves examining the interactions that occur between parents and their young children with a focus on the relationship to the child's engagement in activity.

    Pre-registration is requested. No confirmations will be mailed. After March 22, add late fee: $10. Refund requests must be received in writing by March 22. $25 of the fee is non-refundable.


    Continuing Education Credits

    Psychologists (4 Hours) BIDIP is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education. The APA-approved sponsor maintains responsibility for the program.
