PARTICIPANTS WILL:
Understand how resilience theory applies to infants, toddlers, and their families
Understand the links between the physiological states of mothers and infants
Understand how these dyadic links might inform psychotherapy process and research
Understand how everyday interactions and stressors provide infants and toddlers with opportunities to develop coping strategies that promote resilience
Learn how to promote the development of resilient functioning in the lives of young children they work with
Increase their ability to read and understand developmental neuroscience research
FACULTY
Ed Tronick, Ph.D., a developmental and clinical
psychologist , recognized internationally as a researcher on infants,
children and parenting, is the Chief of the Child Development Unit at
Children's Hospital, a Distinguished University Professor at the
University of Massachusetts, Boston, Associate Professor of Pediatrics
and Psychiatry (Harvard Medical School), Associate Professor of Maternal
and Child Health (Harvard School of Public Health), Associate Professor
of Human Development (Harvard School of Education), faculty member
(Fielding Graduate Institute) and a member of the Boston Psychoanalytic
Society and Institute. With Dr. Kristie Brandt, he co-directs the Napa
Parent-Infant Mental Health Fellowship Program. Dr. Tronick was a
founder with Dr.TB Brazelton of the Touchpoints Program. He has received
grants from NIMH, NIDA, NICHD, NINDS and numerous private foundations.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Tronick has co-authored and authored
more than 150 scientific papers and chapters. He co-developed the
Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale. Dr. Tronick and Dr. Barry Lester
published the NICU Network Neurobehavioral Assessment, a standardized
instrument for assessing the neurobehavioral status of the newborn.
Gerald Stechler Ph.D., is a well respected and
much-sought-after scholar in the field of infant and parent development.
He is a Professor of Psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine,
a Past President, Faculty member and Supervising Analyst at the
Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis and is Chairman and Faculty
member at the Psychoanalytic Couple and Family Institute of New
England.Dr. Stechler is the author of numerous papers on a wide range of
topics, and a mentor to many. He also maintains a private practice in
the Boston area.

DIRECTIONS TO MSPP
From west (CT, NJ, NY, PA and W. Mass):
Take Massachusetts Turnpike East (I-90) to Exit 14 (Rt 128/95 South).
Follow directions from north below.
From the east (Boston): Take Jamaicaway to the
rotary. Bear right (south) at Centre St. toward Dedham; after 1 mile
take a right turn onto VFW Parkway; travel approx. 4 miles, pass
LaGrange and Baker Streets, and West Roxbury High School on the right;
pass Home Depot entrance; at Spring Blossom restaurant take a right turn
onto Charles Park Rd.; go .2 miles, then take left turn on Rivermoor
St.; continue .4 miles to MSPP.
From the north (NH, ME): Take Rt 128/95 South to
Exit 18 (West Roxbury/Great Plain Ave.) Take right at end of exit ramp.
Go 1 mile until road forks, bear left, take first right at rotary and
follow until road ends at Bridge St. Take left. At first light take left
onto VFW Parkway North, stay in left lane for .4 miles by VA Hospital,
to second light; take left turn into Charles Park Rd.; go .2 miles, take
a left turn on Rivermoor St.; continue .4 miles to MSPP.
From the south (RI): Take Rt. 128/95 North to Exit
15A (Rt 1A). Travel 3.2 miles through eight traffic lights, then get
into left lane; continue through ninth light, by VA Hospital; at tenth
light take a left turn onto Charles Park Rd.; go .2 miles, then take
left turn on Rivermoor St.; continue .4 miles to MSPP.
Via public transportation: Take the Orange Line to
the Forest Hill Station then take bus #36 (Rivermoor Industrial Park) to
the VA Hospital in West Roxbury (on the VFW Parkway); or take the #52
bus from Watertown Square and get off at the VA Hospital, cross the VFW
Parkway to the Spring Blossom Restaurant (on the corner of Charles Park
Rd. and the VFW Parkway). Walk straight down Charles Park Rd.; travel .2
miles past Pizzeria Uno Corporation, take the first left onto Rivermoor
St.; continue .4 miles to MSPP.
