Participants will learn:
  • Role that therapist and parent emotions play in building relationships and providing therapy for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other disorders impacting communication and behavioral regulation (e.g., Down Syndrome, Williams Syndrome)
  • Role of emotions across various approaches including Floor Time, Applied Behavioral Analysis, Speech and Occupational Therapy
  • Role of children's emotions, and a new approach called Replays for helping children learn to modulate emotions
    • A Four-Hour WorkshopParticipants are invited to bring examples for discussion from children and families with whom they are working.

    Presenter

    KAREN LEVINE, Ph.D., is a psychologist with a special interest in children with social and communication disorders. She is Director of Autism Services at the North Shore ARC, where she serves as Clinical Director of Building Blocks (an intensive early intervention program for children with PDD), Educational Consultants of New England, and the Autism Support Center.

    Dr. Levine is also co-director of the Neurodevelopmental Evaluation and Service Team (NEST), an interdisciplinary consultation clinic for children with developmental disabilities at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. She is a founder and formerly co-director of the Center for Autism and Related Disorders at Children's Hospital in Boston.

    Pre-registration requested. No confirmations will be mailed. After March 23, add late fee: $10. Refund requests must be received in writing by march 23. $25 of the fee is non-refundable.

    Continuing Education Credits

    Psychologists (4 Hours) BIDIP is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer Category 1 continuing education. BIDIP maintains responsibility for the program.
    Educators and EI (4 Hours) PDP and OFC certificate.
    Social Workers (4 Hours Category 1) applied for*
    Nurses (4.8 Contact Hours) and Licensed Mental Health Counselors (4 Hours Category 1) applied for*
